Sam Severin

Sam has been with the firm since 2019 and has been a partner since 2023.  Before joining the firm, Sam worked for eight years in the Municipality of Anchorage’s Department of Law.  Prior to that he maintained a diverse solo practice with a heavy emphasis on litigation.

Sam has represented private clients and municipalities of all sizes in every aspect of governance, civil litigation and enforcement. Sam has successfully represented numerous clients in state and federal court, including multiple successful appearances before the Alaska Supreme.  He has also advised nearly every type of municipal department, from animal control to zoning.  At the Municipality of Anchorage, a focus of his practice was representing the Anchorage Police Department.  This work included working with the State of Alaska to develop a protocol for handling of Brady and Giglio material that is now used statewide. Sam was appointed to a task force to deal with dangerous or unsightly residential and commercial properties such as the Northern Lights Hotel and successfully worked to remove several of these structures.

Sam continues to represent and advise communities throughout Alaska, particularly with respect to police departments, complex labor and employment problems, and contested public records litigation.  He also represents private clients in various types of litigation and advises small businesses and individuals on commercial transactions and compliance matters.  Sam frequently uses his municipal law experience to advise or represent private clients in resolving issues with local governments. In addition to working with some of the largest municipalities in the state, Sam works frequently with smaller cities and entities such as Kotlik, Quinhagak, Toksook Bay, and the Emmonak Tribal Council. He has greatly enjoyed the opportunity to travel to these smaller communities and see parts of Alaska most people are never able to experience. For clients big and small, Sam takes pride in providing quality, cost-effective legal services.

Sam enjoys biking and has welcomed middle age by developing a passion for growing dahlias. He enjoys spending time in Alaska with his wife Katie and three kids, Charlie, Henry and Willa.
